Entrar en la vida es entrar en el reino de Dios

Marcos 9:43 – “Si tu mano te fuere ocasión de caer, córtala; mejor te es entrar en la vida manco, que teniendo dos manos ir al infierno, al fuego que no puede ser apagado”
Jesús ha hecho una declaración notable en esta discusión de las ocasiones de caer y el grave asunto de causar que alguien sea herido, alguien que Jesús llama uno de sus "pequeñitos". Dice que sería mejor que alguien atara una cuerda alrededor de su cuello con una piedra pesada atada al otro extremo y arrojarlo al mar.
En la aplicación personal, anticipó que alguien dijera que no pudiera evitarlo. Jesús respondió simplemente que no se debe permitir nada que le haga pecar, porque no se puede entrar en la vida que Él ofrece mientras camina en pecado. El pecado es un comportamiento aberrante como se define por Dios en su Palabra. La única alternativa a la vida es el ser enviado al infierno y la ira de Dios.
Hay dos maneras de interpretar la palabra "vida". A comparación con "infierno," puede parecer que Jesús se refiere al cielo y que se refiere al día del juicio final. Por otro lado, la vida puede referirse a la nueva forma de vida, la cual ofrece la comunión con Dios. El Evangelio de Juan utiliza la palabra "vida" y la frase "vida eterna" con frecuencia en este último sentido. Juan 1:4: “En él estaba la vida, y la vida era la luz de los hombres.” La luz es una metáfora de la iluminación, el conocimiento, y la comprensión. La luz que Jesús ofreció en su enseñanza fue instrucción sobre cómo pensar y vivir. Fue a todas partes enseñando. El significado básico de la palabra hebrea "torah" es la instrucción.
El que no conoce ni obedece las leyes de Dios no sabe cómo vivir bien. Debido a que no vive bien, no está vivo desde el punto de vista de Dios. No conoce a Dios y Dios no lo conoce. Mateo 7:21-23, “No todo el que me dice: Señor, Señor, entrará en el reino de los cielos, sino el que hace la voluntad de mi Padre que está en los cielos. 22 Muchos me dirán en aquel día: Señor, Señor, ¿no profetizamos en tu nombre, y en tu nombre echamos fuera demonios, y en tu nombre hicimos muchos milagros? 23 Y entonces les declararé: Nunca os conocí; apartaos de mí, hacedores de maldad.” Está condenado debido a sus desviaciones de lo que Dios, su Creador y Señor quiere que haga.
Leyendo adelante en Marcos 9:47, la expresión equivalente es "entrar en el reino de Dios." Entrar en el reino de Dios es entrar en la vida. Un reino está gobernado por un rey. El reino de Dios está gobernado por Jesucristo. La palabra "Cristo" significa “el rey ungido.” No se puede entrar en la gracia y el dominio del rey Jesús, excepto conforme a sus términos, como los que ha establecido en sus enseñanzas y las de sus apóstoles. La membresía en su comunión se rige por nuestro "caminar", la metáfora de nuestra forma de comportamiento. 1 Juan 1:7: “pero si andamos en luz, como él está en luz, tenemos comunión unos con otros, y la sangre de Jesucristo su Hijo nos limpia de todo pecado.” Romanos 8:5-6, “Porque los que son de la carne piensan en las cosas de la carne; pero los que son del Espíritu, en las cosas del Espíritu. 6 Porque el ocuparse de la carne es muerte, pero el ocuparse del Espíritu es vida y paz.”
La vida no es sólo el perdón de los pecados, porque también es la libertad de la esclavitud al pecado. Romanos 6:3-19, “4 Porque somos sepultados juntamente con él para muerte por el bautismo, a fin de que como Cristo resucitó de los muertos por la gloria del Padre, así también nosotros andemos en vida nueva. … 6 sabiendo esto, que nuestro viejo hombre fue crucificado juntamente con él, para que el cuerpo del pecado sea destruido, a fin de que no sirvamos más al pecado. … 11 Así también vosotros consideraos muertos al pecado, pero vivos para Dios en Cristo Jesús, Señor nuestro. 12 No reine, pues, el pecado en vuestro cuerpo mortal, de modo que lo obedezcáis en sus concupiscencias; 13 ni tampoco presentéis vuestros miembros al pecado como instrumentos de iniquidad, sino presentaos vosotros mismos a Dios como vivos de entre los muertos, y vuestros miembros a Dios como instrumentos de justicia. … 16 ¿No sabéis que si os sometéis a alguien como esclavos para obedecerle, sois esclavos de aquel a quien obedecéis, sea del pecado para muerte, o sea de la obediencia para justicia? 17 Pero gracias a Dios, que aunque erais esclavos del pecado, habéis obedecido de corazón a aquella forma de doctrina a la cual fuisteis entregados; 18 y libertados del pecado, vinisteis a ser siervos de la justicia.”
Jesús está enseñando que no podemos entrar en su reino, si no nos arrepentimos de nuestros pecados. No podemos vivir en comunión con Dios si no hacemos lo que Él quiere que hagamos.
Jesús nos está enseñando que la vida que tenemos por gracia es condicional. El don de la gracia de Dios, aunque es de gracia, viene con obligaciones. Si uno peque contra alguno de “los pequeñitos” de Dios, a quien ama, ese probará de su ira, no importa quién sea, no importa cuántas veces haya dicho, "Te amo Jesús." O "Dulce Jesús, ven a mi corazón."
Como en Juan 14:6, “Jesús le dijo: Yo soy el camino, y la verdad, y la vida; nadie viene al Padre, sino por mí.” La vida que Jesús enseñó es un CAMINO, verdadero y vivo. Es un camino de vida. Es un camino estrecho, Mateo 7:14. Es el camino de Dios, Hechos 18:26. Es el camino de la verdad, 2 Pedro 2:2, y es el camino de la justicia (la rectitud), v21. El Señor no da la vida como una transacción legal o un regalo de cumpleaños. No es misteriosamente infundido en nosotros mientras dormimos. La vida es un comportamiento que Jesús nos enseña a vivir. Podemos enseñar a los demás esta vida para que puedan vivir la vida gloriosa conformada a la imagen de Cristo.
En serio, no tenemos otra opción. Es vivir o morir.
Enter Life
Mark 9:43 – “And if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than with two hands to go to hell, to the unquenchable fire.”
Jesus has made a remarkable statement in this discussion of stumbling-blocks and the serious matter of causing someone else to be hurt, someone that Jesus calls one of His “little ones”. He says it would be better that someone tie a rope around his neck with a heavy stone tied to the other end and hurled into the sea.
In the personal application, He anticipates that someone will say that he can’t help it. Jesus answers simply that you must not permit anything to cause you to sin, because you cannot enter the life that He is offering, while walking in sin. Sin is aberrant behavior as defined by God in His Word. The only alternative to life is consignment to hell and the wrath of God.
There are two ways that you can interpret the word “life.” By comparison to “hell,” it might seem that Jesus is referring to heaven and that He is referring to the day of final judgment. On the other hand, life can refer to the new way of life that offers communion with God. The Gospel of John uses the word “life” and “eternal life” frequently in this latter sense. John 1:4: “In him was life, and the life was the light of men.” Light is a metaphor of enlightenment, knowledge, and understanding. The light that Jesus offered in His teaching was instruction on how to think and live. He went everywhere teaching. The basic meaning of the Hebrew word “torah” (law) is instruction.
One who does not know or obey the laws of God does not know how to live right. Because he does not live right, he is not alive from God’s point of view. He does not know God and God does not know him. Matthew 7:21-23, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’” He stands condemned because of his deviations from what God, his Creator and Lord wants him to do.
Reading further in Mark 9:47, the equivalent expression is “to enter the kingdom of God.” To enter the kingdom of God is to enter life. A kingdom is governed by a king. The kingdom of God is governed by Jesus Christ. The word “Christ” means the anointed king. You cannot enter the grace and dominion of King Jesus except on His terms as He has laid them out in His teachings and those of His apostles. Membership in His fellowship is governed by our “walk”, the metaphor for our way of behavior, 1 John 1:7. “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.” Romans 8:5-6, “For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. 6 For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.”
Life is not just the forgiveness of sins, it is also the freedom from the slavery to sin. Romans 6:3-19, “We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. …
6 We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. 7 For one who has died has been set free from sin. … 11 So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.
12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. 13 Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. …
16 Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? 17 But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, 18 and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.”
Jesus is teaching that we cannot enter His kingdom, if we do not repent of our sins. We cannot live in fellowship with God if we don’t do what He wants us to do.
Jesus is teaching us that the life that we have by grace is conditional. The free gift of God, although free, comes with strings attached. If you sin against one of God’s little ones whom He loves, you will taste of His wrath, no matter who you are, no matter how many times you have said, “I love you Jesus.” Or “Sweet Jesus, come into my heart.”
As in John 14:6, “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” The life that Jesus taught is a true and living way. It is a path of life. It is a narrow way, Matthew 7:14. It is the way of God, Acts 18:26. It is the way of truth, 2 Peter 2:2, and it is the way of righteousness, v21. The Lord does not give life as a legal transaction or a birthday present. It is not mysteriously infused into us while we sleep. Life is a behavior that Jesus teaches us how to live. We can teach it to others so they might live the glorious life conformed to the image of Christ.
Really, we have no other choice. It is live or die.
